The Hong Kong Prize is one of Asia’s most prestigious competitions. This merit-based award rewards scientific research that has a global impact. Winners receive a substantial cash prize and the opportunity to conduct their research in Hong Kong.
The competition’s judging panel is made up of experts from all over the world who have a strong interest in Hong Kong and its people. The competition is held in several rounds to ensure the fairness of the process. Each round includes a shortlist, public vote, and final panel discussion. In the end, the winner is announced at a gala dinner and awarded with the grand prize.
HK Prize is open to students enrolled in secondary schools in Hong Kong. To participate, students must be nominated by their teachers. Once they are nominated, students can submit their artwork online before the submission deadline. The judge’s prize will be given to the student with the best entry. The rest of the prizes are given to students who make the shortlist.
There were some surprises at this year’s awards. Xi Tianqi, a reporter from China Daily, won two runner-up prizes in the arts and culture category for her series about Hong Kong’s quest to become a cultural hub. Another journalist, James Cook, won the news category for his story on Hong Kong’s efforts to speed up the adoption of electric vehicles.
Other winners included director Benny Chan, who won the best director prize for his cops-and-robbers action flick Raging Fire. The film also won the best action choreography and film editing awards. Actor Andy Lau won the best actor prize for his role in the film.
This year’s hk prize was the most diverse in history. The nominations included activists fighting for freedom and democracy – some of whom have been arrested for their activism – as well as social justice initiatives, such as an organization that provides shelter to homeless adults. Five of the nominees are from Hong Kong, making it the city’s most represented group in the Art Prize’s history.
The hk prize 2024 is hosted by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKAIT) and sponsored by Bank of China. It is a non-governmental merit-based award that recognizes outstanding scientists and their teams, the research results they have achieved and the economic and societal value they have created. The hk prize will reward science that has a global impact and encourage young scientists to pursue science. It will also provide an excellent platform for international research collaboration. The hk prize is divided into three competition categories – Life & Health; New Materials & Technologies; and Social Sciences & Humanities. Each of the categories has its own judging panels and criteria. The judging panel for the Life & Health category is independent from that of the other two competition categories. To ensure consistency of judging standards, all the final judging panels are chaired by a person of high standing. This is to promote the objectiveness of judging and enhance public trust in the award.
